HP Results Show Improving PC Sales

HP reported fiscal fourth-quarter results that included sales which topped Wall Street forecasts as the company's personal-computer business improved over the same period a year ago. HP said that for the period ending Oct. 31, sales of PCs rose 4 percent from a year ago, to $8.02 billion, as sales to consumers climbed 7 percent and business-related PC sales rose 3 percent from last year's fourth quarter. With PC sales in the lead, HP reported a quarterly profit of 30 cents a share, on $12.5 billion in revenue, compared to earnings of 83 cents a share on sales of $12.3 billion in the year-ago period. Excluding one-time items, HP earned 36 cents a share. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast HP to earn 37 cents a share on $11.8 billion in revenue. "We're proud of the progress we are making.
